World Pride Sailing Regatta 2023

The Australian Sailing and Cruising Club Inc (ASCC) and Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) are pleased to jointly run a 3 day yacht-racing regatta from 20th to  24th February 2023 on Sydney Harbour, out of CYCA at Rushcutters Bay.

The regatta will follow a three day format, up to five races per day, with a reserve weather day (Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th February 2023). There will be an optional pre-regatta training day (Monday 20th February) . Crews will be of 4-5 per boat, for between 8 and 14 boats. The boats are Elliott 7m keel boats, with asymmetrical spinnakers. Note:- these are racing boats, not champagne-cruising. At least some racing experience is assumed for all crew, and a current knowledge of IYRU racing rules is expected of the skipper.

The event welcomes LGBTQIA+ people from across the globe and their allies and friends.

While a detailed program is still to be released, these races will be scheduled in the morning and afternoon. IF the contingent weather day is not required, there will be a prize-giving on the evening of Thursday 23rd February – however, if insufficient races have been held due to unsuitable weather, the prize-giving will be on the evening of Friday 24th February, after the final day’s racing.

For any specific queries please contact Commodore Neil Cossor (AH) on 04 1115 1195 or internationally +61 4 1115 1195 (noting time offsets to Australian Eastern Summer Time please!)

We would like to acknowledge the Gadigal clan and Cammeraygal clan of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of this land and water and pay our respects to the Elders both past and present whose country we are surrounded by, and whose waterways we sail on.

Pricing is a on a cost-recovery basis, assuming 10 boats (ASCC is a non-profit social sporting organisation). The regatta has some fixed costs, and costs per boat. ASCC is financially backing the World Pride Regatta, dependent on the number of participants in the event. If more than 10 teams enter, then the ASCC will donate any surplus to LGBTIA+-related charities.

The pricing is per boat, where you may organise your team of four or five. If individual applications are made, the pricing will assume teams of four (i.e. 1/4 of the boat price). If you end up competing in a team of 5, the difference in cost per person will be refunded.
